Looking for LX love in all the wrong spaces.

Many devotes and hard core defenders of the LX are out there ready to gush the marval of this camera.  Weather sealed and super sensitive meter and a solid feeling all metal body.  The camera arguably a masterpiece of hybrid automated camera technology.  I do love this camera and if I could, I would keep using it forever.  However, as fanciful forever and the actual passing of time, the eventual failure comes to the camera and forever tends to be about 9 to 15 years depending on conditions.   So the almost legendary prose  that you will find about the LX, you will also hear of the infamous syndrome.  At around 90% of the caused of failure listed by the dedicated users and critics are the foam absorbers/seals around the ground screen and equally blamed is the rubber bumpers under the mirror that provide the necessary soft landing upon the return of the mirrors travel.  These two causes are very common, but many would say that it is all to it when it comes to the mystery of the LX's bad behaviors.  Not spoken about and never fully explored are some of the other problems.  They are as follows.

Foam dampeners inside the mirror spring
Rubber bumper pad found under the Auto-Aperture arm
Shutter Magnet
ASA selector board
Main board
Main power switch
Speed/Mode selector switch to turn on shutter magnet

In some discussion boards that air the call for help on LXs, I've been foolhardy to stick my opinions into them.  I've made what I would call sound suggestions for what might be ailing a specific LX and based on the owners best descriptions of the symptoms.  Upon the issuing of my opinion is often then returned with empty threads as to my gall in proposing an unfamiliar cause.  In a few cases I've been giving the cold shoulder and the others would discuss on with the basic troubleshooting that would be repeated by others joining the thread.  The loyalty to the LX can be a blinding one it seems.

In the near future, we will explore the LX and see what really make it tick.

REMEMBER, I AM NOT A CAMERA REPAIR TECHNICIAN NOR DO I PLAY ONE ON TELEVISION!  Opening up a camera without prior practice or training and not understanding basic precautions specific to a particular camera is a risk that is taken by the individual owner.  I am not looking to do this as a absolute guide and will not recommend it to just anybody.  I am willing to possibly destroy a camera beyond repair.  If you do not feel the same, then do not proceed any further.
