Welcome... This is my little blog about stuff related to photography or around the subject of photography. I like to tinker with things as well as learning things to help me be a better photographer or better tinkerer? In this spot you will see some of my experiments and projects as well I'm sure some mishaps or outright failures. I hope you find here something that is interesting to you and drop me a note. Remember, I'm not an actual photographer nor have I played one on television.

KX and the dead meter.
So I've been fixing some stuff. The really nice looking KX unfortunately fell to the floor and landed hard enough to disconnect the meter. It still looks good, but had no meter for a while. The repair lasted across three days as it required the careful charting of the parts coming off as well as the re-foam of the pentaprism as well as the light seals along the side of the mirror-box and the chassis. The wiring was mapped and the meter was cut out of the holder... well the caps were cut. The rest was held in by an alignment screw. The movement screws had to be unsealed and the coil spring desoldered from the frame. Under close examination, I noted the coil that was still attached had a nice amount of solder on it, but the side that broke had very little either on the post or the coil. That would explain the break. The hardest part of this project was the soldering back in that coil. I certainly didn't have an iron small enough and it did not occur to me to sharpen the tip of the iron as well as my very small forceps had run off somewhere. It took about a dozen tries to get it right enough.
