Warning! If you are not fully familiar with the DIY repair of any camera, don't jump in without some research and maybe practice on a less advanced camera.
I am fully aware that I'm risking my camera by doing this, but it is my camera. I have over four years of tinkering inside cameras of all sorts and am fool-hardy enough to attempt this task.
Please familiarize yourself with the three (01, 02, this 03) before starting the opening of the camera. Any damage caused by your tinkering is a risk you must be willing to take and not send me weird angry anonymous e-mail about... you know who you are... as I am not responsible for your camera. Do download the LX service manual that are available on the net and read through the published steps. I will try to follow them, but will make necessary short cuts to some steps as needed. Remember, the LX is a very complex camera and is not for the "noob" who has never worked on a hybrid system... consider practicing on a simpler camera first... I recommend the Pentax S1a or H1a to see a simpler SLR design.
Finally got the chance to render these images of steps.
1. Small flat tip driver or pin slipped to the side of the rubber pad and gently work the adhesive to pry out. Try not to chew it up unless you have a spare.
2. Chrome screw underneath. Give it a spin with your driver, but you will notice left over adhesive may still cover the screw.
3. The center screw. Some sealant may be encountered
4. Do take note of the differences. Due to the narrow clearance to the gears just beyond, the short screw is utilized. A matching shorter cup as well. The opposite side is the deeper cup and screw because being only the chassis under it.
NOTE: To reply, yes there are two kinds of drivers utilized. In image #1 it is a common flat tip from a cheap set. In image #2 it is a Moody JIS set I got for about $16.00.
There you have it.
