So, I thought I would dive in...
The armature... six o'clock with the hook like end... not in contact with the lever to the aperture. Why?
The union of the upper and lower was not much a challenge to unscrew. The three screws must have loosened over the year of tightening on and twisting off. Also the armature was a little saggy and allowing too much play to give a chance for a jar to dislodge the two parts.
